VIENNA, AUSTRIA, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Central European University (CEU) is relaunching its two Business Master’s programs at the Department of Economics to prepare graduates for a workplace in which domain expertise increasingly needs to be combined with data, artificial intelligence and critical judgment.
Starting with the 2027/28 academic year, the MS in Finance will become the MS in Finance, Data & AI, while the MS in Business Analytics will become the MS in Business Data Analytics & AI.
The renewal responds to a broader transformation of professional work. Across finance, analytics and other knowledge-intensive fields, AI can increasingly write code, analyze data, build models and perform first-round research. As a result, professional value is shifting beyond simply producing an analysis towards asking the right questions, understanding context and exercising judgment.
This also creates a challenge for universities. Many tasks increasingly performed by AI were traditionally part of how junior professionals learned their craft. Higher education therefore needs to enable students to benefit from AI while ensuring that technology does not replace the development of the underlying expertise required to understand and challenge its outputs.
Combining Domain Expertise with Data and AI
CEU’s response is not to teach AI as a stand-alone skill. The renewed programs integrate it with disciplinary expertise, strong analytical foundations and real-world application. The MS in Finance, Data & AI combines rigorous finance education with data analysis and practical AI literacy. Students develop expertise in areas including corporate finance, banking, investments, financial markets and risk while strengthening their ability to work with data and AI-supported decision-making.
“The skills that made a graduate highly employable five years ago are no longer enough: employers increasingly need people who can combine deep domain knowledge with data, AI and the judgment to make decisions under uncertainty. Our MS in Finance, Data & AI is being renewed around exactly that combination” – said Andras Danis, Head of the MS in Finance, Data & AI program.”
The MS in Business Data Analytics & AI reflects the evolution of business analytics itself, bringing together statistics, applied data science and AI with business context and real-world problem-solving. Students learn not only how to use advanced technologies, but also how to determine whether an analytical approach is appropriate, evaluate its results and translate them into meaningful organizational decisions.
“The hardest part of AI adoption isn’t whether your computer can reach the model provider fast enough. The real barrier is whether an organization can rewire itself so that the technology becomes part of everyday work and actually raises productivity. We want to educate professionals who can help organizations make that transition and turn AI capability into real value” – said Gabor Bekes, Head of the MS in Business Data Analytics & AI program.
Scientific Rigor Meets Professional Relevance
Both programs are built around a common principle: technological capability becomes valuable when it is combined with disciplinary expertise and the ability to evaluate evidence critically.
This approach extends beyond the classroom. Through CEU’s Capstone Projects, students work on real challenges submitted by companies and other organizations, applying their academic and technical knowledge to practical finance and analytics problems.
The renewed programs reflect CEU’s broader commitment to connecting research-led education with the changing demands of professional practice. The objective is to prepare graduates who understand their field, can work confidently with data and AI, know when to challenge technology and retain responsibility for the decisions they make.
Applications for the 2027/28 academic year are now open for the MS in Finance, Data & AI and the MS in Business Data Analytics & AI at Central European University in Vienna. Apply now.
