Tanya Jo’s Cheesesteaks will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 801 NW 3rd Ave. The celebration will feature a special appearance by Philly native Wallo, author and co-host of the hit podcast “Million Dollaz Worth of Game,” who will sign copies of his latest book, “Yes to You, No to Them,” beginning at 4 p.m., alongside a free book giveaway for guests.
Tanya Jo’s is a Philly-inspired neighborhood concept rooted in family, culture, and legacy. The restaurant is named in honor of Tanya Jo, the Philly-born mother of owner Siddiq Kancey, and brings the spirit of the classic neighborhood cheesesteak shop to Overtown. The menu features generously packed cheesesteaks, fries, and familiar comfort food, served in a space designed to feel approachable, energetic, and distinctly local. Ahead of its debut, Tanya Jo’s was named one of The Infatuation’s most exciting Miami restaurant openings of fall 2026.
Tanya Jo’s is the newest concept from Kamal Hospitality Group, the family behind Overtown’s House of Wings. With more than two decades in the restaurant business, the family continues its commitment to building independent food concepts that reflect the communities they serve.

Wallo’s presence brings deep cultural resonance to the opening. After serving twenty years in prison, the Philly native returned home and built one of the most compelling platforms in culture today, sharing hard-won lessons on accountability, redemption, and growth with millions of listeners. His 2024 memoir, “Armed with Good Intentions,” chronicled that journey, and his new book, “Yes to You, No to Them,” was published by Hay House in June 2026.
Guests can expect a lively celebration of food, music, family, and community, with a live DJ from 2 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
